Appreciation and Excitement

Many of you know that this has been an extremely long journey for me and PJ. For those of you joining us for the first time, welcome! It’s the eve of our launch, and I find myself reflecting on Knots Apparel and how it’s evolved with such incredible potential. It’s been quite a while since 2012, when I first started thinking about unique concepts for a socially conscious business. Knots’ first line originated from my desire to design a product that I could wear every day but look interesting enough to generate questions and raise awareness for the charities I care about. Striving to accomplish that, but completely inexperienced in apparel design and manufacture, we began producing innumerable ‘prototypes.’  Some were made of burlap, others fell apart after tying them. Some of them didn’t tie at all! Yeah, we have come a very long way! The products you see in our Shop and Lookbook are of an extremely high quality and look even more beautiful in person. But we wouldn’t have gotten to this point if it weren’t for the help of many, many friends.  I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to those who have helped Knots Apparel become what it is today: something I am very proud of.

Mike Newman has been one of my best friends since college, and I feel extremely privileged to have him in my life. He is responsible for the phenomenal website you are browsing, and could definitely make something even better for your company. Hit us up if you’d like us to connect you with this diligent and talented designer. Mike McCarthy is an ambitious artist with many instrumental piano CD’s available to check out on iTunes. He’s also self-employed and has been an invaluable source of guidance throughout Knots’ development. Brent and Adam Losing are responsible for most of the gorgeous photography we’ve got up on ourLookbook. I can’t stop looking at that light pouring through the dilapidated roof of that 19th century barn. Very cool. Finally, I wanted to extend  heartfelt thanks to my partner in crime, PJ McAward. PJ and I grew up surfing on the east end of Long Island. We’ve always had a tendency to get into trouble together, and throughout this journey I frequently worried “My God, what have I dragged him into now???”  However, his passion for and belief in our mutual vision for this company has never wavered. Knots wouldn’t be what it is today without his help and there is nobody I would rather have by my side.

Again – thanks to everyone who has believed in us and supported us throughout this journey. We’re excited to have started a fun business selling incredible products that ultimately help others. If that is something you can get behind, feel free to shoot us a note, tell your friends or pick up one of our ties. We absolutely appreciate having you here!
